Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a medical assistant or been curious about what an average day is like for one? If so, we have a great video for you to check out that shows some of the tasks a medical assistant might complete in an average day at work. Here is a link to that video:
If you don’t have time to watch it, here are some of the key points:
Some of the tasks a medical assistant might be responsible for that are highlighted in this video include:
- Arriving at the office an hour or more before the patients arrive in order to check the patient schedule for the day and prepare all necessary forms and documents. These forms and documents might include:
- Lab slips
- Pathology slips
- Immunization reports
- Medication lists
- Well-adult forms
- Patient history forms
- Ultrasound forms
- X-ray forms
- Preparing exam rooms for patients and practitioners. This includes making sure that the room is clean and fully stocked, that there are plenty of gowns, lots of table paper, and clean, ready-to-use tools and equipment.
- Checking the medication storage areas, vaccination stations, blood collections areas, etc. to make sure that all of the necessary equipment is clean and ready to be used by practitioners.
One of our favorite things that this video covers is the importance of a medical assistant getting to know the practitioner so well that he/she can anticipate what the practitioner needs before it has even been requested. Of course, this comes with working closely with a specific practitioner over a long period of time, and eventually it should eventually become like second nature.
